A little bit about Giclée Prints and Printing

Giclée is a French word that translates as a spray of liquid. Artists looking to produce a high quality fine art reproduction of their work typically choose Giclée printing as this method faithfully reproduces the details, tones, and textures of the original canvas work.

Good to know: there is no visible dot pattern on the Giclée print which can happen with other digital print methods.

The process for creating a Giclée print starts with a finished painting; once dry, but typically prior to varnishing, the canvas is digitally scanned with a high resolution scanner. Thereafter, there follows a meticulous process of adjusting colours until the printed image is identical in tone and hue to the original painting.

Following sign off by the Artist, it is then printed either onto museum quality archival paper or onto canvas depending on client specifications.  And that’s where you can create something perfect for your home. Each piece can be produced in the size that best fits the space you wish to hang the artwork. It’s worth considering that Gicleé artworks look best when they are mounted in a single or double archival mount then framed behind glass or perspex.

Using Archival paper and inks ensures that the prints are both light and colour fast and with care, will last a lifetime.

Bespoke, hand-finished canvas

Perhaps you prefer the look of the original and want your art purchase printed onto canvas? For a really bespoke piece, I will hand finish your canvas print by adding some extra hand finishing in the form of painted brushstrokes which make your piece unique and will then apply a layer of varnish to seal the work. You can then hang this on the wall as it is or frame if you prefer.

You might like to know that Artists are able to produce up to 1500 prints from an original work and still be entitled to label these as limited edition; in my own work, 98% of my artworks are produced as an edition of 100 or less and all are signed, titled and numbered by hand.

Each Tracey Pacitti Limited Edition Giclée Print is –

  • Hand finished – each is signed, titled and numbered by the Artist
  • Produced as a Limited edition (print runs 25, 50, 100, 125 or 250)
  • Colour Fast
  • Acid Free
  • Museum Quality
  • Shipped with a signed certificate of Authenticity

Open Edition Giclée Prints

Occasionally, I might produce some of my work as an open edition.  These pieces are also signed and titled and are produced to the same high quality as my limited editions however they are not numbered.  In the accompanying details alongside each artwork, it will state whether the museum quality print is limited or open.
